CDBaby! has been a tremendous resource since the beginning of my musical career. The company's founder, Derek Sivers, is a brilliant dude that is passionate about helping others achieve their goals.
While Derek is no longer running CDBaby!, he hasn't slowed down when it comes to dolling out helpful tips to curious artists.
His latest blog post reminds us that it's important that we not keep all of our metaphorical eggs in one online basket. Websites like MP3.com and MySpace were remarkably dominant resources for me early in my career-- and I never once thought that they'd fall into obscurity like they have.
The prominent message here is to not only diversify, but to not leave your career in another company's hands.
